There are few things in the world as exciting as seeing your favourite movie star or celebrity crush off the screen and in the real world and there are few places better to spot your favourite starlets than New York City.

As the backdrop to some of the best films and TV programs to date, and home to the rich and famous, the Big Apple will not let you down when it comes to celeb spotting and stalking! Here is an exclusive guide to some of the best spots and places to find those famous faces and get a chance to bring home some holiday snaps that are of more than just the famous landmarks.

Hotel Gansevoort

Hotel Gansevoort has become renowned for its impressive list of celebrity guests, from Beyonce and Jay-Z to Lindsay Lohan and the Hilton sisters, anyone who is anyone has stayed here! If staying at the hotel is a touch out of your price range, don’t worry – you don’t need to stay there to see the stars… they will be entering and exiting the hotel like luggage on a carousel! Just find a comfortable spot nearby and keep your eyes peeled!

Fred’s at Barneys

Popular with young actresses and actors making their mark on the world, Fred’s at Barneys is a great place to grab a bite to eat while subtly searching for stars. The food is said to be of an excellent standard with great service and the place is a favourite with the stars from Gossip Girl and other New York City-based shows!

Barnes and Noble

Take a look at the monthly calendar on the Barnes and Noble website to see if there are any book signings going on. Chances are some celebrity will be doing a book signing of their latest autobiography and you will get your chance to get your picture taken plus a copy of the book signed without even seeming like a stalker!

As well as book signings, Barnes and Noble also do CD signings, so if you’re lucky your favourite artist may just be in town.

Tribeca

Tribeca is an acronym given to a neighbourhood in Lower Manhattan based on the words “Triangle below Canal Street”. While you’re in Tribeca visit Jin Market, a 24-hour market where you are bound to spot Tribeca residents such as Billy Crystal and Mike Meyers doing some late night shopping!

The area also hosts the Tribeca Film Festival ever year, so if you’re in town at the right time, you are sure to see the biggest actors in the industry checking out this part of Manhattan before the festival begins.

Nobu

Nobu is the famous Japanese restaurant that is an absolute favourite with celebs. If you feel like pushing the boat out to get your celebrity fix, call a month in advance and get yourself a reservation at the sushi house for the stars.

Filming Locations

Check the On Location Vacations website to see what films and TV shows are filming any day of the week. New York City is the backdrop to an overwhelming number of films and shows, so you are pretty much certain to find something to spy on while you’re there. Of course there is a certain etiquette that comes with spotting celebs on the job, but as long as you don’t scream or heckle at them you will be able to watch your favourite stars in action!

Lucky Strike

Who would have thought that celebrities such as Jim Carrey and Gerard Butler have a penchant for bowling? Lucky Strike can be found in Manhattan and has provided entertainment for some of the biggest names in film and regularly hosts parties for the rich and famous. Put on your bowling shoes and see if you can strike gold on your celebrity spotting spree at this fun and quirky bowling alley!

SoHo

If you don’t fancy splashing out on a fancy meal just because there is a slight chance you may see Justin Timberlake then why not take a stroll around Soho at any time of day. Lafayette, just one street away from central Soho, is also a hot-spot for celebs and many actually live there, including heart throb and prolific lothario, John Mayer. Hang around outside the restaurant Balthazar and you are sure to see a famous face or two, or three!
