Hidden in a valley, 20 minutes from the centre of Hangzhou, lies the luxury boutique resort of Amanfayun. Designed in the style of a traditional Chinese village, with 47 stone courtyard dwellings set within 14 hectares of bamboo groves and tea fields, adjacent to West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's an ideal base from which to explore the nearby temples and pagodas, botanical gardens, wetland areas and Hangzhou’s famous boutiques.

Spa

Surrounded by bamboo groves and magnolia trees, Aman Spa is a tranquil sanctuary offering reflexology, steam rooms, a fitness centre, Tai Chi, yoga, meditation and Pilates. There's also the Finishing Salon, where you can choose from a range of hair treatments, manicures, pedicures and waxing, and the Treatment House, where you can pamper yourself with massages and body treatments drawing on traditional Chinese massage and reflexology techniques.

Room Description

There are 42 rooms, suites and villas, all unique, some more than 100 years old and reconstructed using traditional methods. All, however, enjoy modern facilities including under-floor heating, air-conditioning and internet connectivity, while televisions and iPod docks are available on request. Most have private or semi-private courtyards.

Activities

You'll want to explore the beautiful area around West Lake, with its historic bridges, pagodas, islands and gardens, and perhaps pay a visit to the National Tea Museum to learn more about the importance of tea in China and sample some brews. Slightly further afield, Hangzhou is renowned for its colourful silk markets. Back at the hotel, take some time out to relax in the heated outdoor swimming pool.

The Restaurant serves a range of international dishes, and also houses The Bar, for informal dining throughout the day as well as pre- or post-dinner drinks. The Steam House serves traditional fare, including steamed dumplings, Hangzhou House serves aromatic local cuisine, the Tea House offers a selection of the best teas from the region and beyond, and the Vegetarian House offers a variety of innovative, Zen-inspired dishes.
